Africaโs green investment opportunities extend beyond renewable energy and infrastructure. Nature itself is also attracting attention.
The Africa Nature Impact Fund, developed by Finance Earth with FSD Africa and FSD Africa Investments (FSDAi), aims to raise US$100 million for early-stage nature and nature-based carbon projects across Africa.
That is a fundraising target, not capital already raised. The fund, announced on Oct 13, 2026 at the Carbon Markets Africa Summit, seeks a US$20 million first close in 2027, supported by a ยฃ5 million (approx. US$6.6 million) commitment from FSDAi, a catalytic capital that aims to de-risk the fund and attract commercial institutional investors.
Promising carbon and nature projects historically collapse before generating their first credits due to high upfront technical costs. Africa Nature targets this bottleneck directly. By supporting preparation, commercial piloting and implementation, the Fund aims to help them develop sustainable revenues and become viable investment opportunities.
The initiative builds on the Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment, (CAPE) which has assessed more than 300 projects, representing over 3.4 billion tonnes of potential COโe across 76.5 million hectares.
We will watch whether the fund reaches its first close, where its initial investments go, and whether projects can build reliable revenue models while delivering benefits for communities and the environment.
For now, this is an emerging opportunity. Its significance will depend on turning investor interest into financed, workable projects.
